Dates 6-1-26 to 8-14-26. This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Candidates may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university. The Flood Resilience Policy Intern will assist staff in DCR's Flood Hazard Management Program. The internship can be performed remotely, with occasional meetings at DCR's Boston or West Boylston office. DUTIES: Review local floodplain regulations against the state model floodplain bylaw; research and document flood resilience standards in local zoning and wetlands bylaws; gather information from local government officials on the status and implementation of flood resilience regulations in their floodplains; and assist in general with related tasks as needed. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Attention to detail; The ability to understand or interest in learning how FEMA flood zones work, including how to read a FEMA flood insurance rate map; The ability to perform a systematic cross-walk between municipal bylaws and the State Model Floodplain Bylaw to identify gaps in regulatory compliance as well as to identify higher resilience standards; Ability to communicate professional with state and local officials to ask questions about implementation of local floodplain regulations and resilience standards.
